I found some beautiful pieces of timber on a recent weekend in Tasmania, and this is the first serving board I've made with one of those pieces.
This board is made from Huon Pine, I found it at the Salamanca markets. The board has been hand-painted with original abstract artwork, my art style is inspired by my sister Sue's mineral photography. The artwork has been applied with acrylic paint and finished with two layers of resin for long lasting gloss and clarity.
Huon pine grows only in the wet, temperate rainforests of south west Tasmania (not just the only part of Tassie, but the only place in the world). Growing extremely slowly, it averages only 1mm in girth per year. It has a pale straw colour and is absolutely amazing to hold a piece of this special timber in your hands, it is a privilege to work with it. I wanted some special colours to complement the pale colour of the timber and I think the blue and gold really worked 😊
This board has been designed and painted as unique table decor for your kitchen or for entertaining. The resin I use is certified as food safe, although it is not heat proof and you should avoid cutting on the resin surface. The board comes with care and cleaning information.
Dimensions of this board - 26cm x 18cm x 2cm.
